On classic vehicles in particular, lead-acid batteries are only used occasionally, so that they fail very quickly. In addition, there are problems with the escaping gases, which are very aggressive and attack the paint. Even more disastrous is the so-called boiling of the lead-acid battery, during which sulfuric acid inevitably escapes. Even small amounts destroy paint, chrome and clothing. Especially after a successful restoration with new paint and chrome, this is a catastrophe.
